Changed the question to be question of the week, a new question every Sunday, which is on my three poems of the week!
What's your favorite poetry-blog?
This is a piece I wrote this winter, as I had gotten sick and tired of the long nights, and short days us Danish get during the winter, and then I wanted to do a take on how it would be living further up north, where it is night half year at a time, and day another half year. This is also a take on depression at the same time, where as night is all the bad and negative feelings, and day is joy and the happy feelings. Excuses for any facts I've gotten wrong, as I haven't done any proper research while I wrote this, I just let my feelings run out in a stream of words. Enjoy!
"Dark polar nights"
Light brings me realization and hope
making me see thing clearer
in different perspectives
Hoping that the night would never come to me
but the ocean eat the sun for an autumn snack
as I watch everything fall apart
Hoping that the stars and the moon will
give me temporarily light to see things
that matter,
instead of focusing on dwelling predators
stuck in dark bushes.
I wait for the sun to kiss my bare forehead again
to witness the morning dew die
in it's almighty glow
I wait here patiently.
Hoping not to get caught up
in the
Dark polar nights.
true...waiting for sunshine
SvarSlet" give me temporarily light to see things
that matter," - absolutely!
Mmhmm, light lights up our day, strangely enough ;)
Sletah but the dark polar nights are right there waiting for us...i thought the oceans eating the sun for a midnite snack was a creative approach...it made me smile....but i could easily see it as well....
SvarSletThanks! And indeed they are, we can't really fight them, only wait for them to turn to brighter days!
SletThe dark polar nights can be liken to something not desirable. It can get things off tangent and disrupt the equilibrium. That's how I read this! Nicely MZ!
SvarSletHank
Thanks, it was also that view i wanted to be in my poem as well, though there are different takes on this poems, and also different thoughts on how i wanted it to be! It is what the reader wants it to be! :)
SletThis is very well done. I cant imagine how difficult it would be waiting six months for light and sun..........Loved it, especially the perfect ending.
SvarSletMe neither, i haven't tried it myself, but i can only imagine how depressing it would be... and thanks!
SletI sit and watch the grey fog descend into the greenery in back as I read your piece--lovely write!
SvarSletThanks a lot, and I'm glad that my words can create such images in your head!
Sletlove that almighty glow that blows away the frozen and frosty moments....
SvarSletMe too, one of the greatest things nature can accomplish is to thaw away the frozen winters and create a beautiful springtime out of it!
SletOh, how well I understand this. It is SO hard not to get caught up in the dark nights here too. It is at least good when we can see the stars and moon, but when the nights are long and overcast it can make a person depressed for sure.
SvarSletMmhmm, one can only wish for the moon to be bright as many days a possible, to get one through everything!
Slettomorrow is another day to see hopeful lights.
SvarSletcontrasting imagery does make your work sound and beautiful.
Thanks! I'm glad you like my work! :)
SletM.Z., be your own sun, boy, and everything is gonna be alright.
SvarSletBeautifully written piece, I hope to see these lights someday, it's in fear that men discover the essential courage.
Take care and keep smiling.

Yea i try to be that, but sometimes i have to rely on my loved ones being there in dark times! Thanks for the answer to the question, I'll definitely go check those out!
SletAh.. there are so many good poetry blogs out here... following some of the prompts usually leads you to the one you might like..and yes I totally agree about the darkness.. but it's going in the right direction now...
SvarSletI try to follow the prompts myself whenever i get the time to do it, i always seem to find many hidden gems in those! And yep! Brighter and longer days are coming our way! :)
SletGreat imagery in your poem, MZ! I once lived in Scotland and agree that long and dark winters can make one feel depressed. I'll be glad when spring is really back.
SvarSletI actually know quite a few people living in Scotland, how odd! But yea, spring is going to cheer everybody up a bit i suppose, it is going to be great seeing the flowers come out and the hot sun lay it's eyes upon us all! :)
SletYou are now in the Poets United Blogroll. You will see your blog listed on the right hand side of the page....thanks for registering with us.
SvarSletThanks alot! :) I'll be sure to post some quality posts then! ;)
SletIt is always about the light then, isn't it? I wonder if the folks who live around the equator are the happiest? Ah but they have other things to deal with don't they?
SvarSletThey do yea, conditions can never be perfect i guess....
SletM.Z.,
SvarSletYou have captured that gradual longing for those brighter days, once we sense that winter should have moved on...I too want to see and feel sunny days very soon:)
Denmark is a beautiful country, which I enjoyed on my one visit in late November, almost ten years ago. I shall return again!!!
Eileen:)
Nice! I love living here in Denmark, although it would be nice if the winter would just stay away! ;)
Sletthis poem appeals to me.. probably because I yearn for the same thing..winter here has been long and hard...
SvarSletAw sorry to hear that the winter was kinda hard for you! The winter was kinda mild here this year for me, luckily!
SletI know about dark and snowy nights as winters up here in Canada are pretty cold and long too ~
SvarSletI specially like the third stanza & yes, spring will be here soon ~ Keep on writing & good to see you participating in Poets United ~
Have a good week ~
Thanks! I will keep on writing until my fingers no longer can lift my pen! ;) And you have a nice week too!
SletBeautiful write, I really liked the description of ocean eating up the sun for an autumn snack....smiles
SvarSletThanks a lot! :)
SletI too struggle in the winter--craving more light. Ahh yes, to feel the sun's kiss...nice work.
SvarSletThanks! The kiss from the sun is what I've longed for for months now!
SletLight is the symbol of hope and happiness..it makes us lively ..nice lines ..
SvarSlet"But the ocean eat the sun for an autumn snack " ... awesome line..!
Thanks! I had the picture of a sunset I once saw in my head, and that was what it was like, the ocean eating it in one single bite! :)
SletI live in Australia where the sun not only kisses you but with its powerful passion tries to barbecue you...never mind just jump in the ocean for a swim...it is autumn here now which would be like your Summer. It is just different degrees of hot warm to not so warm weather here all year around.
SvarSletI've always wanted to live a place like that! I really hate the winter times, i see no positive things about it!
SletThe darkness you describe is quite foreign to me... I live in the Sonora Desert. Although, I have had periods in my life when those dark nights were purely metaphorical as I battled the black dog of depression. SO glad that is no longer dogging me.
SvarSletGlad to hear that you won the fight against it!
Slet:-)
SvarSlet:)!
Slethaha, i live in the tropics so i won't know about the polar nights, but it's nice to know how you feel about them. :)
SvarSletHaha damn, could use some of that tropical warmth!
SletThanks! :)
SvarSletI'm with you here, holding hand and waiting for sun...:)xx
